Welcome to the Feathers

The Feathers is a traditional pub offering excellent value accommodation. It lies at the very heart of the small East Devon seaside town of Budleigh Salterton.

It provides a social centre for the town as well as a popular haunt for those visitors to the area who have discovered its delights.

We are ideally situated on the High Street, but are only a stones throw away from the beach, popularly known as the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and the magnificent South West Coast Path.

The present owner Joan Salt has been at The Feathers since 2003 and has continued to renovate, improve and enhance this 16th century character public house, being careful to retain its many interesting features and ensuring it is firstly a proper pub, whilst reverting it back to what it once was; a hotel/inn.

Our History

Budleigh Salterton, has been a popular destination for visitors for hundreds of years. The Feathers was one of five Inns in the town and has always been quoted as the most popular. The building itself is16th century and over many years has been added to.

In 1843 The Feathers Inn as it was then known, was owned by Mr Abraham Freeman, a pillar of the community who ran it successfully for over ten years. The business was advertised for sale on 21st April 1853 in the Exeter Flying Post.

It is more recently, (circa 1904) when The Feathers has been referred to as a hotel. The Feathers Hotel was a commercial inn owned by Mr and Mrs H. Worth. The gossip was that the hotel only reached the peak of its fame after Mr Worth's death. It was talk of the town and extremely popular when Mrs Worth called in her three very attractive sisters to help run the establishment.
